Chapter 64

"Is, is that my name?" he asked. "I don't remember."

"Yeah, it is." Alanna replied, unlocking the door.

She led him over to the lounge.

"So, uhh, what do you remember?" she asked.

"Umm..." Isaac thought for a moment. "Umm... I remember waking up and feeling like this. Umm, that's all that comes to mind right now. I remember how to speak..."

"Amnesia, and you still joke around." Alanna giggled.

It occurred to her that she should probably give the Hansons' a call and let them know.

"Do you, do you know me very well?" he asked.

Then another idea sprang to mind. A temptation far too easy to resist.

"Oh, I know you very well." She said. "In fact, we're married."

Isaac frowned.

"We are?"

"Yes." Alanna took his hands and gazed into his eyes. "Yes we are. Oh Honey, I was really worried about you when you didn't show up for lunch like you usually do. I nearly didn't recognise you when I found you just before."

She got up and leaned over to kiss him, putting some of her weight on him.

"Ow." He complained, pushing her away. "I, I'm sorry, uhh, I'm sorry, but I'm really, really sore right now. Maybe, I should see a doctor."

"Oh, I'm sorry Honey." Alanna apologised. "C'mon, I take you upstairs and you can get some sleep."

'No way is he going to a hospital. The doctors will recognise him and when it gets out that he's missing...' she thought selfishly.

Babsie opened the door to a kindly looking police officer.

"Yeah?" she asked.

"Uhh, are you Barbara Hanson?"

"Babsie. I go by Babsie."

"We found your husbands' car."

This got her attention.

"And Isaac?"

"No sign of him, but the car and his wallet were found when investigating another case. Uhh, if you'd like to come down to the station, you could help us identify anything else that may have belonged to him. And if you wouldn't mind filling out a couple of forms."

Babsie nodded slowly.

"Sure, but you find him. Because when it come down it the nitty-gritty, I'd rather have Isaac than the car back."
