Chapter 53

Taylor was sifting through fan mail. He picked out a letter with 'Urgent' written all over it. That certainly wasn't unusual. He ripped open the seal with his finger and pulled out the piece of paper inside. With it was a photograph. That wasn't unusual either.

What was unusual was the girl reminded him of what Jess used to look like. Not that Jess wasn't still wearing black, she was, but every now and then she would actually wear colour.

One major difference was that this girl was looking rather... drained. Like the life in her was slowly being squeezed out. She was pale and her eyes were dim.

After staring at the picture for a moment, he unfolded the letter and read the words written in spidery handwriting.

"Oh my gosh." He exclaimed finally. "Damn, when on earth was this letter sent?"

Taylor flipped the envelope over to find the postage date.

"Oh man."

He stood up and hurried to the phone to ring the number the girl had sent him in the letter. Just before dialling, he wondered if it could just be a trick to get him to talk to her, but decided to risk it.

"Hello?" asked an older womans' voice.

"Uhh, hi. Is Meredith there?"

"Yeah, just a sec."

Taylor waited for a few moments. Finally a hollow-sounding girls' voice picked up the phone.

"Hello."

"Hi, this is Taylor. Taylor Hanson."

There was quiet.

"Umm, I just read your letter. Are you ok?"

"I, I never expected you to call... I, I, I don't know what to do."

Meredith sounded like she was going to cry.

"Hey, it's ok. Did you want to tell me any more about it?"

Taylor and Meredith spoke for about an hour on the phone.

"I, ahh, I have to go now." Meredith said.

"Oh, ok. Do you have the internet? Like, can you access it?"

"Ye-yeah..."

"Ok, I'm gonna give you one of my e-mail addresses ok? Just promise me you won't give it out to anyone else."

"Ok. Thank you." She replied quietly.

After they hung up, Taylor slouched in a chair and sighed. He could only hope he helped her. Somehow.
