Before he could stop it, a tear ran down his cheek.
"Oh, stop it Zac." He muttered to himself, wiping it away.
But saying this could not stop another from falling. He sniffed and shoved his wallet back in his pocket.
He wiped his nose with his hand.
"Damn it Zac. Stop crying."
But that only made it worse.
He sat by the window, the tears running down faster and faster down his cheeks.
"Oh Cassie."
Zac tried to stop the tears.
"I love you Cassie. Oh why does this have to happen to us?"
He put his hand on the window.
"How am I ever gonna live without you?" he whispered.
Then he saw the wet mark left on the window by his tear-soaked hand.
"Zac, knock it off! You, you, there's nothing you can do!"
This only caused him to cry harder. In desperation, he looked around the room and spotted one of Taylors' keyboards.
"Right. Not quite drums, but at least I'm pounding on something." He said, recalling his drums were stored elsewhere.
He started playing. But what he played seemed to change from one thing to another. Soon the tears dried up as he concentrated on just playing.
Isaac happened to walk in after his saxophone lesson. He watched his distressed brother play a tune, a song, he didn't recognise. Zac didn't notice him. Noting the expression on his face, Isaac realised that he probably wouldn't be able to reproduce what he was doing when he was fully himself. Quietly, he put a tape in the player, and pressed record.
Then Zac started singing. Isaac looked at him, rather startled at this change.
Isaac listen for a little while, then it occurred to him that Zac was probably feeling miserable about Cassie, hence the words he was singing.
Feeling like an intruder, Isaac quietly left the room. Taylor was talking with Rita outside.
"Hey guys." He said. "Umm, I think we should leave Zac alone in there for awhile."
"Why's that?" Babsie asked, joining them.
"He's composing." Isaac answered. "I think it has something to do with Cassie. He's looking pretty miserable."
"Poor guy." Rita sympathised.
"You know, I was only thinking the other day... they married in January and she's... well, you know." Taylor commented solemnly. "I mean, they aren't even gonna see their first year wedding anniversary."
