Chapter 3

Zac and Cassie walked out of the movie theatre holding hands. They headed over to the eatery.

“Oh, my, gosh.” Cassie said suddenly. “Look at that!”

Zac turned around to see what Cassie was pointing to.

“So a couple of teenagers are making out major in the middle of a mall. Big whoopy doo dah. There’s nothing new about that.” He gave her a sly grin. “We do the same.”

Cassie rolled her eyes.

“Yeah, but not like that.”

Zac just shrugged and took a bite of his burger.

“You know, the girl looks familiar...” Cassie said slowly.

“Who?” Zac asked.

“I’m not sure exactly... she reminds me of – oh my gosh it is!”

“Who?” Zac turned again just as Cassie answered him:

“It’s Jess!”

“What? Oh my gosh!” Zac’s eyes were wide.

“Oh, Zac -” Cassie complained as he stood up and stalked over.

“Jess!” he practically shouted.

Jess looked up at his, startled and almost guiltily.

“What on earth are you doing?”

“What does it look like I’m doing Zac?” she retorted.

Jess’, uhh, friend gave them a look.

“You know this freak?” he questioned.

“He’s my brother, Joel.”

“You’re related to a Hanson?”

“I told you that.”

“Yeah, well, I thought you were joking. So, what do ya want little kid?”

“Keep off my sister, or we’ll see who’s the little kid around here.”

“Ooh, making threats now Hanson?”

“Zac...” Jess complained. “C’mon, just leave me alone.”

Zac glowered at Joel. Then he turned to Jess.

“I think he’s trouble Jess.”

Joel rolled his eyes.

“It’s my life Zac.”

Zac and Jess locked eyes for a moment.

“Fine.” Zac said finally with a sigh. “Do what you want it’s your choice. But, if it turns out that I’m right about him – which I will be – don’t let pride stop you from telling me.”

He turned to Joel and pointed an accusing finger at him.

“And if you ever, ever do wrong by my sister, I will personally smash you to a pulp. You understand?”

Joel smirked at him. Zac grabbed him by the collar. Now, something you should know is that Zac was considerably bigger than Joel (so calling Zac a ‘little kid’ was pretty stupid) and therefore Joel was rather intimidated (although he would never admit it) by this particular position he found himself in. Which, of course, was Zac’s intention.

“Do you understand?”

“Sure do faggot.”

Yet another sign of lack-of-mentality. Zac pushed him away with considerable force and headed back to Cassie.
