"Who was that?" asked Rita. "You were talking for a while."
"It was Jesse."
"Ahh."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Oh nothing. You two seem to be getting close."
Morgan pulled a face.
"Well, yeah, but not like that! He's a great friend and well, yeah, that's all it is. We're just friends."
Rita smiled.
"I seem to remember a little rumour that went around a few months back."
"It's still going around," Morgan murmured with a blush.
After the Academy Awards, Jesse's appearance with Morgan as his date provoked (inevitably) the rumour that they were dating. Jesse had heard about it during an interview, and laughed it off saying that Morgan was a good friend, nothing more and that was the way they liked it.
"Ahh, so the rumour hasn't been completely quashed yet, huh?"
"Well, 4A only got asked about that recently."
"A point."
Mike, Sam and Adam had found out about the rumour while they had been recording and were confronted with the question "so what do you think of your sister dating Jesse Trewin?" during their promo a few weeks ago.
"She's not," Mike had answered promptly, and that appeared to be the end of that.
Rita noticed the look on her face and patted her shoulder.
"So they think you're dating a young, successful movie star, what of it? There are far worse rumours, honey. Far worse."
Morgan managed a smile.
"Oh. By the way, Zac read your screen play."
"He did?" she squeaked.
"Yes," Rita smiled back. "He really likes it. He said it was fantastic work from someone who hasn't had a lot of experience writing these things. He, uhh, would like to know if you'd like to come back to LA and work with his friend Larry Hudson."
"What, really?" Morgan gasped. "Oh my gosh... but he's... he's amazing! Oh my gosh!"
Rita laughed. Then Morgan sobered.
"You won't be there, in LA."
"No."
"Do... do you want me to go? Or stay?" she asked, holding her breath with worry about the answer.
"Honey, I'm am not going to stand in the way of you doing something you really want to do - unless I think it'll hurt you! I'll miss you, but we'll still talk on the phone and stuff. If you want to go to LA and do this - and I think it sounds like a great opportunity - I won't stop you."
"What does Dad think?"
"He said it was up to us. And I say it's up to you."
Morgan was all smiles as her gave her a hug.
"Oh, thank you Mum!"
"You're welcome, honey."
