Chapter 91

Psylocke and Jarod’s wedding was a lot bigger than they expected. They both intended on only a small wedding – close friends and immediate family only – but they couldn’t invite certain people without inviting other people and, well, must any more be said?

Of all the Hansons, only Babsie, Isaac, Rita and Taylor, and their respective kids were invited, although sitters had been organised for the younger ones. Natalie had offered her services in this area.

During this time there was much opportunity to catch up with their Australian family. Mr Masters and Mary had no resolved their differences, despite Mary’s success. Although Mary originally intended to become an economist, she found she got more enjoyment out of being a stock broker.

Kevin was still a chef at the Masters Club, but now, having married his girlfriend Suzie, he was also the father of two-year-old twin girls. No, Kevin couldn’t escape the twins gene.

“So, Psy,” Babsie said as she helped her sister into her wedding gown. “Whatever possessed you to have a wedding in the middle of winter?”

“Timing. Jarod and Nick are going to start their new movie soon and we want some time to go on our honeymoon.”

“Still, but July? You realise you were asking for rain.”

“And I got it!” Psylocke laughed. “But I don’t mind. We accounted for that, but still, the weather doesn’t matter.”

Psylocke was beginning to get really nervous the last few minutes before she walked down the aisle.

“Were you this nervous before you married Isaac?” Psylocke asked.

Babsie thought for a moment.

“No, actually. In fact, I didn’t get nervous until the priest looked at Isaac and said the ‘do you take Babsie to be your lawful wedded wife’ bit. And for a moment there I swear, I nearly panicked that he was going to say ‘no’,” Babsie smiled at the memory. “But then he looked into my eyes and... I guess it was just one of those moments of just... clarity. I just... I just knew everything was going to be okay and that we’d be together forever and yeah... All doubt was gone.”

“Wow.”

“Everything is gonna be fine, Psy. Believe me.”

Psylocke nodded.

And so time came for the bride and her maids (and flower girl) to walk down the aisle. The priest spoke, they said their vows and “I do”s and they kissed. And, of course, the ‘peanut gallery’ went up in a chorus of “aww”s (and a couple of “eww”s).

Well what do you expect will happen if you invite kids between the ages of ‘too-little-to-have-any-comprehension-of-what’s-going-on’ and ‘actually-knows-when-to-keep-their-mouth-shut’ to your wedding?

Nick, as the Best Man, linked Babsie’s arm as they came down the aisle.

“Hmm, so I guess this is the only time we’re ever going to walk down the aisle?” Nick whispered to her with a silly smile.

“Nick, you’re a worry.”

“So are you.”

“I have an excuse. It’s natural,” Babsie grinned. “You, only the other hand, well, we won’t go into that.”

Nick chuckled.

“Say, are you okay?” Babsie asked. “You’re looking a little thin. And tired too.”

“I’m fine,” he assured her.

At the reception, the Four Amigos performed a song. Whether they had offered or been asked no one could remember now. Psylocke came out of her shell and for the first (and probably the last) time, sang one of her own songs in public. Babsie accompanied her.

“They sound awesome together,” Taylor commented to Isaac.

“They do,” Isaac agreed. “And I expect we may never have the pleasure a second time.”

“I hope you’re wrong!”
