“Dinomight.”
“You’re kidding.”
“Nope.”
“They’re good!”
“You expected anything else from our little sister?”
“No but... wow!”
Zac laughed.
“What does Carmen think?”
“How’d you know she was around when I played the demos?”
“Well, y’know, ever since Monkey Business’s album and all their singles went number one...”
“See? I told you she was gifted. And Carmen loves it. She made me play them over and over and over.”
“So, she approves huh? I was thinking of signing them after their high school graduation.”
“Oh yeah, it’s Sarah’s last year of school already, huh?”
“Scary, huh?”
“Why wait until after graduation anyway? They’re still going to be doing music, whether a band practice or a gig or whatever, so why not give them the option of working on their album?” Isaac asked suddenly. “Of course, obviously they have school and all, but, yknow...”
“That’s an idea. Why don’t you see what Taylor thinks and get back to me? Hey, when are they coming back?”
“On the twenty-third. Say, are you guys coming down this year?”
“No.”
“It’s not going to be the same without you.”
“Yeah, it’s gonna be quiet,” Zac joked. “Hey, maybe you guys should come our way for New Years.”
“Hmm, we’d need to get out a couple of tour buses again. Man, it’s been a long time since we last toured,” Isaac sounded wistful.
“It is. Maybe we should get an album together, say a Best of album with some new songs and tour during the summer.”
“Ooh... I love that idea... I sure hope we can do it... oh gee!”
“What?”
“Coming up to LA for New Years... we’d have to leave Babsie behind...”
“Can’t bring her with you?”
“No. Maybe I should have her moved into the hospital while we’re away – assuming we can arrange to visit. A nurse comes around regularly to check on her, you see. And besides, she shouldn’t really be moved from the bed, which was why such a big deal was made when Taylor and Esme moved her the time that Tracy tried to hold us up.”
“Ahh, I see. Well, hope you can come up. I’ve... got some Christmas presents for your kids. All twenty of them.”
“Really?” Isaac asked, surprised.
“Yeah. I mean, other than some of the older ones I haven’t actually gotten more for them than five dollars cash. I thought I’d do something different this year.”
“Oh hey, great. What did you get?”
“Now, now, you’re just going to have to wait and see, just like the kids.”
They chatted for a little while longer and then they hung up. As he put the phone in it’s cradle he noticed Kelsey giving him a look.
“What?”
“You’re like, not really going to give his kids all those... things are you?”
“Yep.”
“Zac...”
“Hey, it’ll teach him not to con you into pretending to leave me again.”
“Zac...”
“And nothing you can say is gonna change my mind.”
“You do realise that he’s going to get revenge for this one, don’t you?”
“Yep. That’s why I’m already planning my next attack.”
Kelsey laughed.
