"Oh. My. Gosh!" she gaped.
Astounded at her discovery, she looked further, completely freaked out. Once she had seen everything, she sat back in her seat and just stared at the screen. Then she reached over and rang Taylor's phone number. It was engaged so she rang Isaac.
"Hello?"
"Umm, hi Ike, this is Kel. I, umme, like, I don't suppose you would know what this disk I found is all about? I have an idea but..."
"Well, what's on the disk?"
"Files. Files of girls with things like birthdays and e-mail addresses and other personal information. I found it in Zac's desk. And, oh man, he has a thing that says 'started dating at'. There's fifty files here. Fifty!"
"Well, umm... years and years ago now, before he and Cassie started dating Zac was a player. A major one."
"Oh gosh."
"Yeah. As I recall he couldn't keep track of them all, because he was dating like, forty of them at the same time. So he had these files on them. I guess you have the files. I didn't realise he still had them."
Kelsey was silent.
"Kel?"
"I'm here, I just..."
"He's not cheating on you. He dumped them all so he could have a serious relationship with Cassie, and when she died the last thing he even considered was playing again. So, Zac never told you about his... extracurricular activities huh?"
"No," Kelsey replied, letting out a small laugh. "And I never would have even jumped to that conclusion if it hadn't been for the 'started dating at' line and Taylor's book."
"His book?"
"Yeah, in one of his earlier novels, he has a character named Tom who has like, forty girlfriends or something. I guess we now know where - or rather who - he got that idea from."
Isaac laughed.
"Yep! Say, it occurs to me you could have some fun with this."
"How do you mean?"
"If you put the disk back where you found it and don't let on that you did and play some mind games. Like pretend to be cheating on him - with 39 other guys. Or better yet! Tell him you found the disk and act all mad and stuff and pretend to leave him. Or kick him out and watch him come crawling back on hands and knees or something."
"Isaac! That's so mean."
Isaac counted silently from five.
"I like it!"
He grinned triumphantly to himself.
"I think I'll pretend to leave him. I'll just pack up my bags and stuff and, ooh, I should get Avie in on it. And Jess to if I can - stay with her and Austin. Oh, this is gonna be fun!"
"And Zac is gonna kill us when he finds out."
"Oh yeah!"
"Let me know if you want my help. I bet I can get Taylor in on it too."
"I'll will. Hey, thanks."
"What are brothers for if not tormenting each other?"
Kelsey laughed and they hung up.
