Chapter 24

Babsie was finally released from the hospital, very much her old self again, even if a bit nervous. They were pushing Audrey and Zeke in their pram towards the car where Jarod was waiting. He waved and Babsie waved back.

"Ahh, fresh air," she said, breathing deeply. "Smells good."

Isaac laughed.

Abruptly a car screeched towards them. It hit Babsie, knocking her into Isaac and both hit the concrete. It was only luck that kept it for hitting the pram as well. And when the driver stepped out, it was only Jarod who stopped him from upsetting it.

"Shane," Jarod snarled.

Shane made to hit him but Jarod dodged, yelling for security. Perhaps a little unnerved by this, or maybe he just wanted to finish what he came to do and leave, Shane picked up Babsie and threw her up against the wall. Just as he was going to throw her around again, both Jarod and security jumped him, pinning him to the ground.

The good news was that Shane was well, truly and finally caught. And they made sure he didn't escape this time. The other good news was that neither Audrey or Zeke were hurt. Jarod only got some minor bruising when pinning Shane down and Isaac only had a minor concussion and some bruises.

The bad news was that Babsie was in a coma.

Understandably, Isaac was miserable. He had finally gotten her out of the hospital, only for her to end up back in it!

Still, one of the first things he did once he was released and had sat around in self-pity for a few days he arranged to have Babsie flown to the Tulsa hospital that he and his brothers had donated the money to help build. At first people argued against sending her out of the country, but Isaac pointed out that they lived in Tulsa, and it was about time he got his family home. At long last, they relented.

"I'll come with you, if you want," Psylocke offered. "Help with the kids maybe."

Isaac smiled sadly.

"I thought you had problems handling them."

"Nope. We've come to an understanding," she replied with a devious twinkle in her eye that made Isaac think of Babsie.

It was that Psylocke did look so much like Babsie, and act so much like her that nearly made him say no. But he told her yes. After all, Babsie was her sister, and he wasn't in the habit of looking after all their kids by himself. And even then, there wouldn't be all of them, what with Xavier still on tour.

Oh, poor Xavier. He had been over the moon when he found out that his mum was being released. And then incredibly devastated when he found out she was in a coma. No one would ever deny the relationship they had was very close.

Isaac spent as much time with Babsie as he possibly could. He wanted to be there when she woke. When he found out that she could actually be at home instead of the hospital, he immediately forked over the money required for the special bed and she was moved home the very day the bed arrived.

"Auntie Psy?"

"Yeah... Esme?"

"Is Mum ever gonna wake up?"

"Yes she is," Psylocke replied boldly without even considering that they were told she might not live. "She is definitely going to wake up. It's just a matter of when."

Esme considered this, then nodded and went back to whatever it was she had been doing.

"I hope you're right Psy," Isaac whispered to himself. "I sure hope you're right."
