At one stage Marie sat back from the computer and looked over at Jess.
"Mom?" she asked.
Jess didn't seem to hear her.
"Mom?"
"Huh what?"
Marie looked concerned.
"Mom? Is something wrong?"
"No, no honey. Nothing's wrong."
Marie was not convinced.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
She eyed Jess uncertainly. Then went back to her game.
Sometime later Austin arrived back from the studio. He gave each of them a kiss.
"Dad?" Marie said softly. "I think there's something wrong with Mom."
Austin looked at Marie, then at Jess, and finally back at Marie.
"Ok." He said. "Could you leave us alone for a moment."
Marie nodded and left. Austin sat down next to Jess.
"Something wrong?"
"No! Why does everyone think that there's something wrong?" she exploded.
"Umm… outbursts like that?" he suggested.
Jess stared at him, then started giggling.
"It's, it's not that there's something wrong exactly. Just something… unexpected."
"Oh?"
Jess was quiet for a moment, a small smile growing on her face.
"Jess? What is it?"
She turned her head and looked at him.
"What?"
"Austin, I'm… I'm pregnant."
