Chapter 55

"Y'know, I like, totally love this room."

Isaac gave her an amused look as he rubbed the blue chalk on the end of his cue.

"And why's that? Because it's got a pool table?"

Kelsey laughed.

"Well, yeah. And because the room is like, slanted. Like, you walk in here and you like, think everything is slanted except like, the pool table. And it's like, really weird because like, after awhile you like, start to think that it's all like, normal and like, the only thing that's like, slanted is the pool table."

She grinned at Isaac and whirled around on the spot.

"And that's like, really weird because like, you can't have a game of pool on like, a slanted pool table! You'll have balls like, rolling everywhere."

Isaac smiled and made his shot. He winced as the cue ball completely missed the ball he was aiming for, bounced off the side and fell in the pocket.

"You know Ike, if we were like, playing by the real rules, I like, would have won just then."

"Yeah, yeah, but we're not." He replied, with a smile. "Here, take your two shots."

A little later...

"Aww man, like, you won again." Kelsey complained. "Gee that's like, what? Four to one?"

Isaac studied her face for a moment.

"Now come on Kel, I know you're so much more better than that. Zac told me you played for money in the biker bar last year when he caught you there. And you won. Now, I suck at this game, so there's no way -"

Kelsey laughed.

"Ok, ok, caught."

"What were you doing? Waiting until we put some money on it before you blew my socks off? I don't play for money. Heck, I'd be stupid if I did - I'd lose "

"No. Firstly, even if we did like, put money on it, I would like, only play just hard enough to like, make you think I like, just beat you. Secondly, I don't think I was like, planning on telling you at all. You might like, tell Zac, and I like, haven't played him yet."

"Oh, Zac's good. I might have five, six balls left on the table and he'll knock the eight ball in."

"I like, know he's good. And like, in case you haven't noticed, he like, has money. In fact, I like, think he's like, the only one who wouldn't be too upset if he like, lost a couple of grand. Like, c'mon, man. It must be like, pocket money for you guys."

"A couple of grand?" Isaac repeated. "Ok, I wanna know what's the biggest amount you've made, and the biggest you've lost."

Kelsey grinned.

"Well... I once 'lost' like, three grand. But I did that on purpose."

"Why?"

"Well like, duh, I'm a pool shark! The sucker I was playing like, offered me a chance to like, 'win back like, all the money I'd lost' when we like, more than doubled the stakes for like, the next game. I won eight grand and a Mercedes Benz."

Isaac cracked up.

"A Merc? You got a Merc?"

"Oh yeah. When I said, like, more than like, doubled the stakes, not only did like, the money go up but so did a little extra. Ha he was like, so incredibly convinced he would win the little sleaze bag. You see, if like, he had won, I had to like sleep with him." Kelsey pulled a face. "Apparently, he does that to all his like, female opponents, but I think that was the first time he's like, been beaten."

"I still wanna know what you did with the Merc." Isaac said, shaking his head in amusement.

"I like, sold it."

"What did ya do with the money?"

"Wouldn't you like to know. Hmm, so, like, another game?"
