Chapter 38

"If anyone has anything against these two being wedded in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace." The pastor said.

There was a brief silence.

"I object."

Everyone turned and stared.

"Mark?" Jess gasped. "How? Why? What?"

Mark practically leapt to her.

"Oh, Jess I was an idiot. I love you. I love you."

"No! No! Get away from me."

"But I want you Jess. I had you once. I want you again."

"No, no, no, no,"

"And you want me too. I know you do."

"Jess?" Austin asked.

Mark threw a knife at him, and before anyone could react, Austin had fallen to the ground, the knife pierced through his heart. Mark laughed wickedly.

"Die! Die! Die!" he cried.

"No! No! Stop Mark! Stop!" Jess sobbed.

But Mark kept on laughing and throwing knives. At the pastor, her brothers, her sisters, her nieces, her nephews, Diana, Walker. Marie.

Everyone.

"No! No! Stop! No! Stop!"

"Jess? Jess?" came Austin's voice. "Jess wake up."

Jess's eyes shot open. She was lying in bed, in a cold sweat and panting slightly.

"Shh, it's ok. You were just having a bad dream." He said, wrapping his arms around her.

She nestled her face in his shoulder and cried.

"It, it was so real. You, and Marie and everyone died. And, and..." she let out another sob.

"Shh, shh, it's ok. I'm alive. We're all alive."

"He, he came back." She whimpered.

"Who? Who came back?"

"Him. He was killing everyone. Even, even his own daughter."

"Who?"

"Him! Don't you understand what I'm telling you? Mark, Mark came back. Marie's father."

"Don't worry. It was only a dream. He's never gonna hurt you again."

Those words of comfort weren't quite enough to convince Jess.
