Chapter 11

"Hey Ike!" Babsie called.

"What?"

"I was just talking to the Furgesons, and guess what."

"What?"

"You know that block of land they have on our street?"

"Yeah."

"It's up for sale."

"Really? Why?"

"Well, you see they originally bought the land because they were planning on building a house on it right? They got the clearance and everything and then Mrs Furgeson's grandfather died a couple of months ago."

"Oh dear, that's terrible."

Babsie nodded.

"Anyway, apparently, he was loaded and, well, since she was his only living rel, she inherited the lot."

"Wow."

"So, they're moving up to her grandfather's place permanently. But that's inconsequential. The point it, the land is up for sale."

"The house as well?"

"No. It's on another street, as you know. It's being sold separately." Babsie gave him a hopeful look. "We could buy the land you know, hire an architect..."

"Babsie..."

"Oh, be realistic Ike." Babsie scolded. "A, this is Taylor's house. B, more than half the kids living here are ours. C, there are only six blasted bedrooms. And D, I'm pregnant with more kids. Dude, we're running outta room in this house, and I know Taylor and Rita aren't gonna say anything."

Isaac sighed and nodded as the phone rang.

"Yeah, I know. It's just, ok, I know this is gonna sound weird, but I'm only just kinda getting used to living across the street from Mom and Dad, and not having them on tour with us."

"Meanwhilst, the closest thing I have to family aside from you guys are living in another country in the other hemisphere."

"What about your dad?"

"He doesn't count." She replied with a glare. "C'mon Ike, it's only a five minute walk - not even that. And don't you think it'll be cool to build a house?"

"Knowing you, you'll want some absurd design."

Babsie gave him a wry smile.

"Well, ok, I would like to have a really cool weird looking house, but I'm not stupid. Fans'll be able to pick it out so much easier that way." Babsie paused. "On the other hand, they wouldn't expect us to have a house like that because it would stand out. On the other hand, who else on this street would want a weird house?"

"You have three hands there."

"So I'm an alien. So sue me."

Isaac smiled.

"It can still be absurd on the inside. We can have a spiral staircase with a slippery dip next to it." Babsie joked.

Isaac laughed.

"Actually, it's just occurred to me..."

"What just occurred to you?"

"I am an alien. I'm a non-American citizen living in the US... so legally, I'm an alien..."

"Hey guys," Taylor said, entering the room. "That was Avie on the phone. She called to say 'hi'. Umm, she would have liked to talk to you, but she had to get back to shooting."

What, you didn't think she'd get the role in the movie?

"Oh, ok." Isaac replied. "Damn, I wish I could have said 'hi'."
