Chapter 3

26 October 2025

Taylor answered the phone and immediately Sam’s picture appeared on the screen. Behind him was a hospital corridor.

“Hi Sam.” Taylor greeted. “I take it you have news?”

“Melissa’s had the baby!” he replied excitedly. “A girl. We’re naming her Heather Faye.”

“Hurrah, another one for our side.”

Sam raised his eyebrows.

“Are you and Uncle Ike and Uncle Zac still competing against each other for who can have the most grandkids?”

“Well, given that we’re all done having kids now, it seems that grandkids is the next thing to compete over.”

“Pathetic,” Sam shook his head. “Besides, Uncle Ike is already creaming you by five now, and only one of his 20 kids has manage to procreate so far.”

“Ahh, yes, but Ike might have 20 kids, but between the rest of us, we have 20-odd kids so...”

“I’m coming back to the word ‘pathetic’.”

“Don’t call your father pathetic.”

“Or at least not to your face, right?”

“At all.”

Sam chuckled.

“Hey tell Mum, okay?”

“Will do. Tell Melissa congratulations.”

“I will,” Sam smiled. “Heather’s just beautiful, Dad. I can’t wait for you to meet her.”

Taylor grinned.

“I can’t wait to see her too,” he replied. “Oh, Morgan’s going back to LA tomorrow.”

“That’s right. I’ll have to say good bye to her later. You know what’s going on with her and Jesse, yet?”

Taylor shrugged.

“They’ve made their peace, but other than that, I don’t know.”

“Huh. What about that script?”

“All done. Another reason for Morgan going back. Production’s going to start.”

“Cool. Okay, well, I’d better go. More calls to make.”

“And your dear wife might just get a little upset if you don’t come back soon?

“Yeah, that too.”

Taylor chuckled and the two hung up.
