Chapter 24

4 January 2027

Jim met Zoe and Chris in the waiting room.

“How is she? Can we go in?” Zoe asked.

“Would you believe it, she’s already had them,” Jim replied with a smile.

“She has?” Zoe asked, just a little disappointed not to be there at her children’s birth.

“It was very quick,” Jim said apologetically. “But yes, we can go in. Two boys, by the way. Congratulations.”

“Oh!”

Zoe and Chris followed Jim into Sarah’s room.

“Hey sweetie,” Jim said. “Guess who’s here?”

Sarah looked up and beamed at her guests.

“Zoe! Chris! Hey!”

“Hey,” Zoe smiled. “I understand you went and had the kids without me?”

Sarah chuckled.

“Well, I won’t way I’m not sorry labour over, however short it was,” and she nodded her head over to the basinet. “They’re over there.”

“Oh!”

Zoe moved like lightning over to the newborn baby twin boys.

“Oh, they’re beautiful...”

Chris smiled and sidled up next to her as she carefully picked up one of the two.

“He’s the oldest by about fifteen minutes,” Sarah informed them.

She looked at the babies wistfully and Jim took her hand. Giving up these two was going to be harder than she thought.

“So, what are you going to name them?” Sarah asked slowly.

“Brendan James and Zoltan Christopher.”

“Oh,” Sarah exclaimed and glanced at Jim.

Zoe grinned at them.

“Yeah we decided to name them after all of us,” she said.

Sarah blinked.

“Okay, James and Christopher I can see... but Brendan and Zoltan?”

“Zoltan, by the way,” Jim joked, “sounds like something Isaac and Babsie would name their kids.”

“That’s what I said!” Chris grinned.

“Oh shush. Okay, so Sarah means Princess and Zoe means Life – which is a little ironic given that I can’t have kids,” Zoe explained. “Brendan means Prince and Zoltan means life.”

“Oh hey wow,” Sarah said. “Hey that’s cool.”

“What’s cool is that I managed to talk Zoe out of naming Brendan Ser... Seraithicka,” Chris said, stumbling over the unfamiliar name.

“Seraiah,” Zoe corrected rolling her eyes. “Which is Hebrew like Sarah and also means Prince.”

“I can see why you went with Brendan,” Jim nodded.

“I like Seraiah,” Sarah considering.

“Same,” Zoe agreed.

Jim and Chris looked at each other and shook their heads.

“I notice she got away with Zoltan though,” Jim said.

“You should have seen the other names on the list.”

“Ahh.”
