Chapter 3

Jess was naturally worried about Zac, which may well explain why she had trouble sleeping that night. Finally, she couldn't take the tossing and turning, and her mouth had become dry, so she got up and headed downstairs to a get a drink of water.

She switched on the kitchen light and her eyes widened...

Isaac and Taylor shot up in bed. In fact, Diana, Walker, Avie, Mackie and Zoe woke up suddenly and at the same time themselves. They later came to the conclusion that Jess had inadvertently woken everyone up through her Dreams power, when she got the shock that she did.

What scared her so? Well, when everyone not-so-sleepily flocked to the kitchen they sure found out. Standing in the kitchen was a man in about his late twenties, early thirties. He had unnaturally wide eyes, but probably the strangest thing about him was that there were two massive wings folded at his back. Part of his wings were clearly attached to his upper arms.

"Are you an angel?" Zoe asked, breaking the silence.

The man laughed heartily.

"No I'm not." He replied. "But plenty of people have called me that over the years."

"You're Zella's friend?" Taylor inquired.

"One of them. We only just got the message, and the others have been up all day - need their sleep." The man seemed slightly amused by that turn of events.

"And you don't?" Walker asked.

"I'm nocturnal. I'm part owl." The man explained. "Sorry you had to-to find out like this. I didn't think I'd be meeting any of you-you until morning. I'm Oscar."

"Oscar the owl." Isaac mused.

Oscar gave a wry smile.

"Why don't you-you folks go back to-to sleep? I'm just here to-to make sure ol' Goblin-face doesn't come poking 'round 'ere."

"Because I don't wanna wait until morning to get some answers." Walker replied.

"Yeah, me too." Isaac said.

"Me three." Taylor grinned at his joke.

"I'll get the rest to bed." Diana said, stifling a yawn. "You can fill me in in the morning."

"I'm staying too." Jess said, now over her shock.

Diana looked like she might protest, but changed her mind. Walker, Isaac, Taylor, Jess and Oscar got themselves settled around the dining table.

"Anyone want a drink?" Isaac asked.

"Coffee." Taylor replied.

"At this time of night?"

"Yes."

Isaac gave his brother a look, and then collected other orders, before putting his telekinetic abilities to work in the kitchen. Oscar watched for a moment, obviously fascinated.

"I've never met a telekinetic so-so... diverse." he commented.

"Diverse?" Isaac asked.

"Some can only do-do small things in a small area, some can only do-do big things in a big area, and other such limitations. I admit, I'm one myself. I can only do-do small intricate things, like picking locks." Oscar replied, with a wry smile. "But to-to actually meet someone who doesn't have those limitations... it's truly amazing."

"Umm, if you say so..."
