Chapter 11

Taylor was having on of those nights. He was tossing and turning and plain just couldn't sleep. At first he didn't notice them - they had been happening so much lately - but then there was more and more of them, and he felt like his head would explode with all the random thoughts.

Who in their right mind thought in the middle of the night anyway?

Of course, considering that he was getting thoughts from people whom he knew were asleep, there must be more to it than he knew.

Still, the fact remained that he couldn't sleep. He sat up in his bed, cradled his head and tried not to scream.

"Tay? Tay are you ok?" Isaac asked.

He had heard the movement and peeked down at him from the top bunk.

"Thoughts. Voices. In my head." Taylor admitted with a groan. "I can't get them out."

"Block it Tay. Block it. Like we usually do."

"I, I, I can't! I've tried. Believe me, I've tried! Ike, I'm getting random thoughts from people I haven't met, people who aren't even telepathic! Ohhh man…"

Isaac was immediately concerned.

"Do you, do you think it's telepathic in nature though?"

"Y-yes."

"Ok, I'm gonna try something."

Suddenly the pain lessened and Taylor was able to look up at his brother.

"What, what, what did you do?"

"I'm trying a little experiment." He replied. "I'm attempting to mix my telepathic ability with my force fields to create a telepathic force field. I'm guessing it's working."

"Yeah, a lot. I can still hear stuff, but it's not so unbearable any more." Taylor concentrated. "It'll be over in a minute, but I want to try…"

He trailed off and Isaac looked at him curiously.

"They're gone Ike. You can let the force field go now."

"So, umm… what was that all about?" Isaac asked, dropping the force field.

"Well, ok, it's been happening for about, I don't know, two weeks? At first it was just, y'know, pass someone on the street and I find out instantly what they're thinking about. But then the range of people I get thoughts from started increasing." Taylor paused. "When it reached my telepathic range it stopped, so I figure it's probably something telepathic. But by then it had gotten to the point where it was just to painful to do anything when I started getting the thoughts again."

"Two weeks and you didn't tell anyone?" Isaac gaped at him.

"Sorry, it's just, well, I didn't think it was anything I couldn't handle at first. And then… oh I don't know why I didn't tell you. I'm sorry."

Isaac sighed.

"Just next time something weird starts happening, tell us ok?"

"Yeah, I will."

"So, what do you think it is?"

Taylor was silent for a moment.

"Let me sleep on it, and I'll get back to you in the morning."

"Yeah, ok."
