Chapter 10

"Ok James, looks like Blake does have powers." Isaac said. "Umm, you ready?"

James nodded.

"Sure. Hit me."

Isaac leaned over and tapped him on the shoulder.

"Ha ha, very funny." James said.

Isaac grinned.

"Look, umm, can you do us a favour, and when Zac zaps you, can you focus on turning off your enhancing power?"

"Yeah, I can try."

"Yeah but Ike, remember when you first get triggered, you don't have any control over your powers for the first couple of seconds." Zac told him. "The enhancing power might get stronger before he can turn it off. Well, assuming it isn't a Level 2."

"Zac, I don't even want to think about what'll happen if it's a Level 2." Walker cut in.

"Umm, yeah. I'm with you on that one Dad." Zac replied.

"Hey, wait, I have an idea." Isaac said. "Ok, I'm just gonna put up a telepathic force field the second after you zap him. Hopefully this'll block out some of the effects."

"Ready then?" Zac asked.

"Yep." Isaac and James said together.

Zac let loose a second bolt of volts that hit right on target. James' enhancing range must have briefly increased for, despite Isaac's telepathic force field, Zac's figure became water and sparks flickered large and dangerously around Zac.

The television, VCR, and a few other hotel suite appliances started going crazy, no doubt because of Blake. As well as that, his x-ray vision turned itself on and he found he could easily see through anything, including people (how weird is it seeing someone's heart beat like that?). Naturally, after his first embarrassing moment with Jess, he was careful not to look at her again.

As for Jess, well, she had wrapped her arms around her head for a moment because it was like her empathy was overloading. And her healing, for she could feel the inevitableness of death. She was getting a rather odd reading coming from Isaac, but she put that down to the fact that he was reverting back into the liquid form he always went into when he was shape shifting.

As for James himself, well, he was getting a rather odd clicking sensation. Kind of like through these clicks he could actually 'see' the force field that Isaac held around him like a bubble. Which was really odd because, if James had known, no one was actually able to see Isaac's force fields unless something was hitting them.

It was over within seconds. And James managed to turn off the enhancing ability. Everyone went back to their 'usual' selves. Isaac took down the force field.

"Sonar." James said.

"Huh?" Blake asked.

"Sonar. I think I have sonar." James said. "Just a second…"

James focused and let out a series of 'clicks' that only he was able to 'hear'. It was amazing. He could 'see' his brother sitting on the next couch with Jess and Isaac standing in front of him about two feet away. He could tell that Zac, a rather buff bloke, was standing behind a counter that Walker was leaning in front of. He 'saw' everything in a way that he, nor anyone else, ever had before.

It was the weirdest, yet most incredible experience James ever had.
