Chapter 7

*This was a brilliant idea of yours, Ike,* Nate commended. *I never would have thought of global warming melting the polar ice caps.*

*He watched way too many movies, way too many times when his leg was broken,* Taylor paused. *Heck, he watches way too many movies, way too many times, period.*

Nate laughed.

*Hey, ‘Waterworld’ was an awesome movie. Don’t knock it,* Isaac replied.

*I’m not knocking it. I’m knocking you.*

The three were now situated on what had once been a mountain peak. It was now an island.

*So, what do we do now?* Nate asked. *The girls will been headed here as soon as their oasis is flooded.*

*Right. So we have to prepare for their arrival,* Taylor agreed. *Let’s make traps in the forest.*

*Good idea,* Nate replied, his eyes glowing with glee.

The three battered around some ideas and then put them in place. All was in readiness, and they were out of sight when Carla and Rachel arrived.

*What are they up to?* Carla asked.

*I have no idea.*

*Neither do I. But I smell a big, fat rat.*

They stepped foot on the beach and looked around.

*So, which way do we go?*

*Does it matter?*

*Good point*

They just started walking straight ahead. With each step the girls got more and more wary. Suddenly the ground moved from beneath them and they were swinging from the treetops… in a net.

*We should have known they made traps!* Rachel exclaimed. *Now how do we get down?*

Carla was about to reply, when they heard laughing. It was Nate.

*Could it be you have finally been beaten, Carla?* he grinned.

Carla didn’t answer and her older brother went on grinning and gloating. Carla started moving around. Rachel was about to ask what she was doing when she noticed the knife in her hand. Her eyes glittered.

Carla cut the net, and it fell down – right on top of Nate.

*Stay here,* Carla grinned as he flailed beneath them. *Our added weight will make this even harder to get out of. Ten seconds Nate.*

*You’re mean,* Rachel commented with a smile.

*I know.*

Nate thought frantically. Carla counted down the seconds. Then she smiled.

*Aww, Natey-boy didn’t make it. Off to the spectator stand with you!* she grinned.

Nate disappeared from underneath and appeared in a room with a large television, watching what was going on. He sighed. Was he ever going to get the hang of his own game?
