Chapter 2

“This is awesome,” Rachel commented, gazing around the room.

There were two beds and a door leading into a small but practical bathroom. There was adequate storage space and the room in general seemed strangely neat. Well, except for where the girls’ bags had been dumped.

“Completely,” Mary Anne agreed. “Hey what’s your room like?”

“My room?” Zac repeated. “Why, I plan on sharing with you two beautiful women.”

Isaac and Taylor looked at each other.

“Oh good,” Taylor said with a sly grin. “I’ll be able to get some sleep tonight.”

“Yeah, me too,” Isaac agreed. “Some honest-to-goodness sleep, not brought out by sleeping tablets in an effort to drown out Zac’s snoring.”

“He’s snores?” Mary Anne asked the same time Zac blurted out “I don’t snore!”

“How do you know you don’t snore? You can’t hear yourself,” Taylor pointed out.

“Because I don’t.”

“Well, I don’t care if he snores or not. Zac’s not sleeping in here. Isn’t that right Mary Anne?” Rachel said.

“Yep. Sorry Zac.”

“Sorry Zac?” Isaac repeated. “Sorry us you mean. We’re the ones who are going to have to put up with his snoring again tonight.”

“Oh, you’ve put up with it every night for the last who knows how many years.”

“That doesn’t mean we want to put up with it any more.”

“Wanting has nothing to do with it. Having to is the point.”

“Oh, shut up.”

Rachel grinned.

“Hey, I wonder where Carla’s room is.” Isaac commented.

“Hmm, maybe you won’t have to put up with Zac snoring,” Rachel teased.

“Nope, if I have to put up with it, so does Ike,” Taylor declared.

“I don’t snore!” Zac objected.

“That’s what they all say,” Isaac grinned.

“Anyway,” Rachel said pointedly, “you boys get into your own room and then we can explore the place.”

The guys looked at each other.

“Okay, we’re just next door. Meet you in the hallway in five minutes?” Taylor suggested.

“Yep,” Rachel agreed.

As the boys left, Mary Anne turned to Rachel and whispered:

“Does he really snore?”
