Chapter 11

Gordon glanced sharply at Carla, not at all acting like someone who was in shock. Jo raised her eyebrows.

“Let’s see,” Carla went on. “Rachel’s sending like crazy, but the images are confused – I don’t know what I’m seeing.”

“Okay, see the theory is that she banged her head somewhere on ship. Her powers have gone crazy and that’s how the storm started,” Jo told them.

“See?” Isaac managed to joke. “I told you she was smart.”

“Ha ha. Not smart enough to read a few medical textbooks. I’d say concussion. Must have banged her head pretty hard.”

“You’re saying you don’t know something? That’s a shocker. Man, I wish Jess was here. Tay? Why didn’t you invite her?”

“You could hardly know her powers would be needed,” Carla said soothingly to Isaac.

Gordon just sat there and watched. The one who had turned into the boat had much stronger telepathic ability, but his Telepathy wasn’t that strong. The girl who just spoke had more telepathic strength than the girl he had tried to kill, but still not enough. And the other girl who just came aboard had none at all, but she did keep giving him curious looks that made him feel uncomfortable.

“Where is Zac?” Isaac went on. “Man, I hope he’s okay.”

“The storm’s letting up. And Rachel’s coming round,” Jo observed.

“Ohh,” Rachel moaned. “What happened?”

Gordon jerked slightly, eyes flaring slightly. Carla noticed this and smiled.

“It’s okay, Tay,” she said touching his hand softly.

“Rekurian das lurakki trann nal!” Gordon snapped at her.

Carla pulled back, somewhat startled at the tone of voice.

“Did he hit his head too?” Jo asked curiously. “Sometimes babbling can be result of a head injury.”

Isaac and Carla didn’t know. Rachel frowned slightly.

“I don’t know. Guys, what’s happening?”

“Freak storm,” Jo answered her. “Isaac’s turned into a lifeboat. Last we saw Zac he was trying to find Mary Anne. And we don’t know where anyone else is. How are you feeling Rach?”

“A little groggy. But other than that I’m fine.”

Jo nodded.

“You were unconscious for a while, but I’d say that may have something to do with you falling into the sea before. Of course, I can’t be sure unless I know how you were hurt in the first place. I don’t suppose you remember?”

Rachel shook her head.

“I... I went to see Taylor and stop him playing with that rock of his, and come down swimming,” Rachel looked around ruefully. “I guess... you have to be careful what you wish for?”

“Don’t remember anything past that?”

“No, sorry.”

“That’s fine. Hopefully it’s nothing.”

“So, umm, how long do you think we’ll be drifting out here?” asked Carla.

No one answered her.
