“Crowd?” Zac repeated.
“My, yes. As concerned for your health no less.”
The idea seemed to amuse the nurse.
“Of course, I can’t say the same of the press. Hordes of them. And I’d wager most of them are half-hoping they’ll get to report that some great tragedy.”
“They know we’re here already?” Isaac asked. “Man, word goes out quick. We only arrived late last night.”
“Well, I guess just a few too many people have been around you since the accident.” The nurse smiled.
“How come I’m not surprised.” Jess remarked bitterly. “I’m gonna go talk to Rach.”
On that, Jess left the room.
“She appears to be remarkably untouched.” The nurse commented.
“Well, y’know, I guess she happened to be in a part of the bus that didn’t end up completely totaled.” Zac answered. “After all, I wouldn’t have had this sprained arm if a certain, heavy older brother hadn’t landed on me.”
“What? You’re calling me heavy? Last time I checked you weighed more than me dude.” Isaac interjected.
“That’s beside the point.”
The nurse laughed cheerfully.
“Well, I’d best be off. Lots of work to do around here.”
And she left.
“Ike?”
“Yes Zac?”
“You’re dating Carla now. You’re not allowed to look at other women.”
Isaac gave him a look.
“Like you weren’t checking her out. Besides, you’re allowed to look as long as you don’t touch.”
“Oh yeah? Who told you that?”
“Carla.”
“Oh.” Zac didn’t know what to say to that.
“Anyway, she’s way too old for me. She must be, what at least 10 years older.” Isaac continued. “No thanks, I’d rather date someone my own age.”
“And the only girl you found desperate enough to go out with you is two years younger.”
“You calling Carla desperate? What about you? You’re the one dating Mary Anne.”
“What is it with you and Tay and picking on me dating Mary Anne?”
Isaac shrugged.
“I dunno. She just seems so not your type – or anyone’s type for that matter.”
“Just leave her alone.”
“Hey, you’re the one who brought up the topic man. Don’t blame this on me.”
“Ike, of course I’m gonna blame it on you. I always blame things on you.”
“Well, thanks a lot. I suppose you think the accident is my fault too?”
“Yeah, of course!”
“Well... well... well you’re the one who short-circuited the studio.”
Zac was silent for a moment.
“You’re never gonna let me live that one down are you?”
“Nope. Never.”
