Without a doubt there was a short figure dressed in a black cloak walking through the petrol station. That much was totally clear. Taylor could see it quite clearly.
Which is an interesting concept considering in this mind-probe state, he didn't actually have any eyes.
The confusing part was that Taylor could not read any of it's thoughts.
At first, considering that it was the middle of the day now, he hadn't noticed - there were plenty of other thoughts from other people to read. However, when this strange figure had appeared, well, he couldn't help but notice.
Being curious, he had tried to focus on his thoughts.
Taylor had now drawn the conclusion that either this person just didn't think - at all - or there was some sort of block to his telepathic ability that he had never come across before.
Well, at least, not until now anyway.
Naturally, this made Taylor very curious.
His first course of action was to inspect whoever (or whatever) he was before it left his range. He floated over to him.
The figure inside the cloak was wearing black. All black. In fact, the abundance of black made it hard for Taylor to see what was inside.
Something else that was interesting, the figure was wearing a mask of some sort - black of course - under the hood of the cloak. For a fleeting moment Taylor thought that maybe this person was going to rob the place, and it seemed a lot of the people around him were having similar thoughts.
Suddenly, the figure paused. The hood of the cloak jerked around as if he was looking for something. He wandered over to the bin where Taylor's rock was hidden.
If Taylor could have, he would have held his breath about now.
The figure bent down and Taylor knew that he had seen the rock. In fact, he tried to grab it, but despite the figure's small size, his hand was too thick to fit because of his gloves.
For a moment, the figure seemed to consider taking off his glove, but changes his mind. He got up, and continued onto the shop.
Again, if Taylor could have, he would have given a huge sigh of relief. Somehow, somehow this figure had known the significance of this rock. Somehow this figure knew he was here.
But how?
Taylor continued to watch the figure, making sure to keep his distance now. He watched as the figure walked through the aisles and picked up a few bottles of spring water. The figure then began walking quickly to the counter, then suddenly stopped short in the junk food aisle.
He turned his head slowly, and snatched up a king-sized Freddo Frog, then rocketed over to the counter like there was no tomorrow.
Taylor was seriously wishing he had his empathic powers right then. He wondered if it was significant that he didn't. But more importantly, he had this nagging feeling that there was something... something important about particular piece of chocolate. Like a joke, or maybe a message or, or, or something!
Taylor continued to watch.
Then the strangest thing happened. Not that what had happened so far wasn't strange, but this was the strangest thing that had happened yet.
As soon as the figure was out of sight of, uhh, well, everyone except Taylor, the figure vanished. Just disappeared. Into nothing.
Gone.
