Chapter 14

A few minutes later, Isaac slowly sat up.

“So,” he said. “What now?”

“I don’t know,” Tristan said. “I’m so sick of this. I’m sick of teleporting with no control. I’m sick of picking people up and leaving them behind. I’m sick of the spasms. I’m sick of visiting alternate realities. I’m sick of being sick of things…”

Isaac gave a wry chuckle.

“All I want is to go home. To my real home. To my real parents, and real siblings and real friends and real everything,” Tristan shook his head, then realised what he’d said: “Not say you’re not real -”

“We’re just not from your reality. I get it,” Isaac looked off wistfully.

“I just wish I could do what I did when we teleported out of the hayloft. That’s the first time I’ve teleported when I wanted to.”

Isaac nodded.

“I wish I knew what to do to help. Unfortunately, the only teleporter I know is my brother Mackie.”

“Different kind,” Tristan replied. “Although it must be cool to teleport anywhere in the world.”

“He can teleport anywhere in the world?”

Tristan nodded.

“Benefit of being a triggered,” he said. “He has a good business going, teleporting anomalies. Especially the high profile ones to meetings in secret and secure places. Heh. Never met a mutant teleporter his match.”

“Huh. Cool,” Isaac mused.

“I always thought so.”

“So, how did you find out you had inter-dimensional teleportation, anyway?”

“Oh, my Mum’s a power-sharer,” Tristan replied.

“Power-sharer?”

“Yep.”

“I don’t think I’ve met any of those, yet.”

“They’re pretty rare. Anyway, she identified my power, so we all knew this day was coming. Just, you know, not when.”

“Ahh.”

“I tried practicing my electricity and force fields powers a lot,” Tristan went on. “I though that maybe learning how to use those really well would help me master this one. I guess I was wrong.”

“You don’t know that,” Isaac replied. “You have no idea how you would have fared if you hadn’t practiced.”

“I suppose. But I’ve been out here for so long I…”

Isaac patted Tristan on the back.

“Oh, crud… not again.”

And once again, they teleported.
