"Yes!" she exulted.
At last! At long last her Healing had won the battle and she was all better!
She threw back the covers in her exuberance, got dressed and bounded out of the room. Then she paused. Maybe her empathy wasn't quite what it should be, but she felt something was amiss...
Walking slowly, she tracked down the source of her confusion.
"Hi, Jess," Zac said. "You're looking better."
"Yeah... I am..." Jess frowned, then eyed Carla curiously. "What happened here?"
"I sneezed. And speaking of which... does this mean you can heal me now?"
"Umm... yeah..." unthinkingly, she wandered over and touched Zac and began the healing process. "Hi... Carla..."
"Hi Jess," Carla said cheerfully. "It's so good to hear that you're all better now. Such a terrible, nasty thing being sick."
"Yes it is. Are you okay?"
"Perfectly fine, thank you. Never been better."
"I accidentally zapped her and Ike," Zac admitted. "Ike went off his rocker at me, then stormed out."
Jess nodded and took her hand off Zac.
"Maybe I should check, just to make sure," Jess said.
"If you want," Carla smiled. "Who am I to stop someone who only has my wellbeing at heart?"
"Uh huh."
Jess put her hand on Carla, only to confirm the strange reading her empathy was giving her. She frowned and decided to track down Taylor and get a second opinion.
"Something wrong?" Carla asked, noting the concern on Jess's face.
"Oh... nothing... nothing. Zac? Do you happen to know where Tay is?"
Zac shook his head.
"Nope. Something up?"
"It's nothing."
But she was lying through her teeth. There was something very disturbing going on.
"I'm going to find Tay..." Jess said.
Zac watched her wander out. He shook his head, and looked at Carla. He didn't need empathy to know that his sister was most assuredly concerned about something.
