Chapter 3

Zac climbed into his bed at the hotel. He rested his head on his pillow and just laid there, thinking.

How can someone lose their mind so, so, so literally? It was absurd!

He smiled ironically to himself, thinking that absurd was exactly what their lives had become the day Amarita came into their lives.

Zac frowned and bit his lip, thinking of Amarita. He remembered well what she had done to Isaac and Taylor. He hated that they had been so easily manipulated.

He hoped her powers were truly gone. Zac didn't even want to consider what she might to do Wayne.

"Zac stop thinking about her." He scolded himself.

He closed his eyes in an attempt to sleep, but to no avail. Eventually he sat up, frowning into the dark.

"I hate it when I'm tired but I can't sleep." He muttered.

Zac got up and wandered around the room. It felt so lonely without his brothers. After all, they had been sharing a room with each other for as long as he could remember. In fact, until know, he couldn't even remember a night when they didn't.

"There's bound to be something." He yawned. "I bet I'm just too tired to think of it right now."

He sat laid back down on the bed again and tried to get to sleep. He tossed and turned in the bed for a good half hour before he finally sat up again.

Poor Avery. She was still recovering from a severe concussion and some internal injuries. Jess had attempted to help but they had rushed her into the OR pretty quickly. Of course, if she could have Zac doubted if Jess would have healed her completely, after all, it would be pretty strange if the doctors found the internal injuries and then put her into surgery only to discover there weren't any injuries.

"Zac, worrying about everyone is not going to help you sleep."

Zac sat tapping his fingers in frustration on the bed.

"I wonder if there's anything on the tube?" he muttered.

He got up, walked over to the TV and started channel surfing.

"Nothing, nothing, shopping channel, nothing, nothing, nothing, why isn't there anything on? I mean to say! Ooh, the original Star Trek - no, I won't watch that."

Zac continued flicking.

"Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing. Gee, you'd think with a hundred channels there'd be something on! Nothing, some stupid Meg Ryan movie, nothing, nothing, nothing, what the - ooook, some weird international show where people do bizarre things. Really bizarre things. And I can't understand a word they're saying either."

A lot of button pressing later...

"Ah ha! Terminator 2! All right!"

Zac settled down to watch it, only to finally fall asleep ten minutes before it finished.
