Chapter 14

Something was nagging at Taylor. He was sitting at a table in the shopping centre, signing things, and he was certain there was a familiar empathic signature. Well, ok, there were a few, but this one he knew he had sensed recently, he just couldn’t put a finger on who it was.

“And you are?” Zac asked the next girl who stepped up.

“Linda,” she replied nervously.

“Hi Linda,” and he signed the CD insert.

“Zac,” he heard a voice whisper.

Zac frowned. The voice hadn’t been Linda.

“Zac,” the voice said again.

Taylor hadn’t heard the call, but he had noticed Zac’s brief wave of confusion, and then him blowing it off. And thinking about it... the empathic signature was coming from Zac’s direction.

The realisation caused him to pause in signing the CD insert. Isaac nudged him and he finished writing his name, then he stretched back, raising his arms over his head.

“Angela,” he murmured softly, hoping she would hear him.

Taylor sat back in his seat, trying to concentrate on Angela’s signature and signing things for fans at the same time.

“Taylor?” a hopeful voice said right into his ear.

Taylor smiled (the fan in front of his was naturally thought this was for her and went on to brag to her friends that he smiled just for her). He reached his hand back and it came in contact with... some part of Angela anyway, he wasn’t sure which...

At any rate, he managed to find her hand and held it, hoping it wouldn’t look too strange to anyone. As it turned out, Angela must have noticed his predicament because she let go of his hand, knelt beside him and put her hand on his knee.

When the signing was finished, the three musicians stood up and Taylor took Angela’s hand again. They walked into the back room where everyone had arranged to meet up.

“So, where have you been anyway?” Taylor asked the moment the coast was clear.

Everyone glanced at him.

“Well, umm, Dad got into a fight with Trinity – he really is a werewolf after all,” Angela replied miserably. “And then I turned invisible when my wings started growing again. And after Dad left, some other guy took Trinity. I left to try and find you, but you weren’t at the hotel. And I knew about the signing, so I came here.”

“Don’t worry about Trinity. She’s ok. The guy who took her is Rocky and he brought her to Jess. Jess healed her.”

“Oh good.”

“Angela?” Isaac asked. “Where are you?”

“Here. Next to Taylor.”

Before anyone could say another word, there was a knock on the door, and it opened.

“Hey guys!” came a familiar voice.

“Jim?” Zac asked. “Hey look who it is! G’day mate!”

“Hey, I’m the one who’s supposed to rip off all the stereotypes,” Jo complained.

“Oh my gosh!” Angela freaked out before clapping her hand over her mouth.

“Who said that?” Mason asked.
